Study marine science with this $1,500 scholarship

Make sure you stay debt free by applying to this college scholarship

You need to have an interest in marine science, as well as a willingness to pursue a career in the field to get this $1,500 grant

Today, the average student is graduating with at least $20,000 of loan debt, and that’s a pretty though path to embark on as a young adult who just got out and school and looking for a job to support himself or herself.

University online degrees usually seem more affordable than their traditional counterparts. But the truth is somewhere in between. Depending on what subject you wish to study, online universities will charge varying fees, so a medical degree will cost you more than one in, let’s say social sciences. There are other factors, as well. For example, some online universities have a longer history and are known for their excellent services, while others may seem pretty obscure.

Unfortunately, if a university is offering a degree at a super affordable price, it’s best that you think twice before enrolling. Most of the times, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. University online degrees might be more affordable, but they are not dirt-cheap. You also need to keep in mind that if an online university is not accredited, then it is not worth your time.

In order for your degree to be recognized by employees or state institutions it needs to come from an accredited online school. If that’s not the case with your university, then you should really consider looking somewhere else or you will end up spending your money for nothing.

Speaking of money for college, a big part of being a student is searching for funding grants, so that you can ensure you won’t be faced with massive debt upon graduation. No one wants to start their career by worrying about how to pay student debts, right?

The best way to tackle obtaining college funding is to plan in advance. This means you should start thinking about scholarships from high school. Fortunately, there are a few scholarships which don’t require you to be enrolled in college at the moment of applying.

One such program is offered by Beneath the Sea, an institution which wants to encourage students to take up a career in marine sciences. So if you have been fascinated by the sea for as long as you can remember, this is a scholarship you will want to apply to.

To apply to the Discovery Scholarship, you will need to complete an application form, which should also include an essay that describes the candidate’s future goals and why they are interested in pursuing a career in the marine sciences.

Furthermore, you need to submit two letters of recommendation from persons in your community like instructors, teachers, mentors or employers.

The deadline for the Discovery Scholarship is December 15, 2017. If successful, you will receive a $1,500 grant to be used to pay for your college fees and school materials.

This is not the only scholarship offered by Beneath the Sea. There’s also The Art of Underwater Photography Scholarship which awards $1,000 to talented underwater photographers or the Don Reynolds Memorial Scholarship which is worth the same amount of money.
